Frequently Asked Questions About Sleep Support
Seeking sleep support can feel overwhelming and often there are a lot of questions about how it works. Here are some of the most common questions I receive about sleep support. If you’d prefer to just chat please book a free 15 min call with me and I’d be happy to help.
-
I look at the whole picture, your child, their development, sleep patterns, routines, environment and your family’s needs, then create a personalised plan to move things forward. You’ll also have ongoing support while you put the plan into practice.
-
My additional training in Neuroprotective Sleep Consulting means I consider sleep alongside development, nervous system regulation, emotional wellbeing and the parent-child relationship. It’s about looking at the whole child, not just the hours they sleep.
-
Sleep doesn’t happen in isolation. My approach looks beyond naps, wake windows and night wakings to consider the whole child and the whole family; including development, nervous system regulation, emotional wellbeing, temperament, feeding, environment and your parenting values.
My additional Neuroprotective training gives me a deeper lens for understanding what may be driving your child’s sleep, rather than simply focusing on changing the sleep behaviour itself.
But my role isn’t just about sleep. It’s also about supporting you. When you’re exhausted and questioning everything, sometimes you need someone in your corner, someone to reassure you that you’re not failing, help you see the progress you might not be able to see yourself, celebrate the small wins and give you the confidence to keep going.
I’m here to give you the strategy and the support, practical guidance, compassionate encouragement and a whole lot of cheering you on along the way.
-
Absolutely. Hush & Bloom supports families across New Zealand and internationally, with most support delivered online. Through video or phone calls, personalised sleep plans, and ongoing text or voice-note support, you’ll receive the same individualised guidance wherever you live.
-
Sometimes, but sleep support is about much more than a particular training method. We’ll consider what’s happening, what you want to change and which approach feels right for your family.
-
No I don’t. There are many different ways to support better sleep, and I’ll tailor the approach to your child, your family and your comfort level.
Some families prefer a highly responsive approach, while others are comfortable with more structure. There is no one right way.
-
I can’t promise there will never be tears when something familiar changes, but crying isn’t the goal. We’ll consider your child’s cues and regulation, and I’ll guide you through how to respond.
-
No. Sleep support and night weaning are not the same thing. If reducing night feeds is something you want to explore, we can discuss whether and when it’s appropriate for your child.
-
No. Improving sleep doesn’t automatically mean moving your baby into their own room. We work within your family’s circumstances and safe-sleep setup.
-
Absolutely. Better sleep doesn’t have to mean becoming less responsive or less connected to your child. We’ll consider your child’s needs, your values and how you want to respond throughout the process.
-
Frequent night waking, short naps, bedtime struggles, early rising, difficult settling, nap transitions, sleep associations, regressions and disrupted routines, plus those times when sleep simply feels messy and you don’t know where to start.
-
My sleep support is available for babies and children from 3 weeks to 6 years old, with support tailored to their developmental stage.
If you’re unsure whether your little one is ready for support, the free Fit Check Call is a great place to start.
-
Absolutely. We can look at short naps, nap refusal, settling, nap timing and transitions, alongside the bigger sleep picture.
-
That doesn’t mean you’ve failed or that your child “can’t sleep”. We’ll look at what you’ve tried, what happened and what may be missing from the bigger picture before deciding what to do next.
-
You’ll complete a detailed intake and sleep history, which I review before your Launch Call. We’ll then work through your personalised plan together, followed by 1:1 support and sleep-log review throughout your package.
-
Your package includes a full sleep assessment, personalised plan, Launch Call and 1:1 support with sleep-log review. The difference between packages is the amount of time and level of support we have to work through your goals.
-
During your support period, you’ll have weekday 1:1 messaging support and sleep-log review, so you’re not left trying to work everything out alone.
-
Every child is different, so I don’t promise a particular timeframe. Some families see changes quickly, while others need more time and troubleshooting. The goal is sustainable progress, not perfection.
-
If you’d benefit from continued support after your Reset, additional 7-day blocks of weekday support can be added for $195 NZD per week, subject to availability.
Returning families can also access Alumni Support for $79 NZD.
-
Some sleep challenges do resolve naturally, but others can become well-established over time. More importantly, if you’re exhausted, your current situation isn’t sustainable, or you’re struggling to function and be the parent you want to be, that’s a valid reason to seek support now.
Sleep support can help you understand what’s contributing to the difficulties and make developmentally appropriate changes that align with your parenting values, helping create more rest, confidence and capacity for the whole family.
-
Sleep consultants support sleep, we don’t diagnose or treat medical conditions. If I think something medical, developmental or feeding-related may be contributing to your child’s sleep, I’ll recommend speaking with your GP, Plunket nurse, paediatrician or another appropriate health professional.
-
I’m a certified child sleep consultant with additional training in neuroprotective sleep consulting. I can consider your child’s health, development, feeding, temperament and nervous system when creating their sleep plan. I don’t diagnose or treat medical conditions, but can work alongside your healthcare team and incorporate their recommendations into your plan.
